When John Skinner asked us to build him another inshore rod we were all about it. He requested a rod that he could fish inshore from a boat or kayak while he was fishing skinny water up North or during the winter months in Florida. He asked for amazing performance and it had to stand out in his videos. High performance was not a problem. We built it on a Dark Matter M3 Nano Carbon blank with Fuji Alconite K guides to reduce wind knots and a comfortable Fuji barrel reel seat. Making it stand out in his videos while maintaining the look of a Dark Matter rod was a bit more challenging but we finally cracked the code. The first thing we did was incorporate cork grips with burnt sections that give it this amazing pattern that is reminiscent of a tiger. It’s such a simple thing but it visually changes the rod completely. We then moved onto the blank which we at first wanted to be orange (tiger theme) but we just couldn’t get the color to be up to our high standards. We moved on to fire engine red with black accents and when we put it all together, it not only looked amazing but will be easy to spot in John’s YouTube videos. Like many of our rods, this is not a series but a singular model. A 7′, one-piece medium power fast action rod that excels at throwing lures from 1/8-1 oz. The perfect rod for the type of fish John targets. Whether you fish the Northeast or the Gulf this is a great rod to add to your collection.
